Who would have imagined that medical science would be incorporating a robot in conducting major surgeries across the globe? Such is the impact of technology in the 21st century where surgeons and medicine experts are shaking hands with AI-enabled robots that are taking surgeries to the next level. AI in surgery is one of the latest advancements in the healthcare system that is bringing revolution in operation theatres.

What is an AI-enabled Robot?

In an operation theatre, doctors and nurses assemble to conduct a surgery that includes the use of multiple tools and monitors. Often, the speed of assistants becomes a matter of question that human motion may not be equal every time. There comes the role of AI-enabled robots. These robots are computer-controlled devices that help doctors with the positioning of the tools and instruments required for operation. 

Due to the presence of Deep Learning AI, the robots are well equipped with the knowledge of a variety of tools. They proactively assist the doctors with the required instruments so that doctors can perform the major intricate details of the surgery. In the operation theatre, every second counts, and calling out for different instruments often does not become a wise decision in a critical situation. AI in surgery with robots as assistance offers unparalleled control in terms of speed and movement, diminishing hand tremors and avoiding accidental hand movements. This in turn boosts the confidence of the surgeons due to increased flexibility, precision, agility, and greater control 

Advantages of Robotic Surgery Using AI

AI in healthcare has done magic and using robots in surgeries has piqued the excellence of the healthcare system to another level. These are the following advantages of AI-enabled robotic surgeries:

Less Pain

Reducing in pain and discomfort of the patient is a significant benefit of robotic surgery. As the traditional format of operations includes deep cuts and slits, the patient often goes through major pain post-surgery. This leads to taking more painkillers which in excess becomes hazardous to the health. The lesser the pain, the lesser the need for medication. Statistically, it has been proven that patients who go through robotic surgeries often recover faster as the post-operation medications due to pain are less.

Faster Recovery

AI-enabled robotic surgeries accelerate recovery time, especially when compared to traditional open surgery and laparoscopic procedures. This is because open surgeries involve more blood loss and wider cuts. The entire healing process takes a long period and over that period, the movement of the patient also becomes tough.

Little Blood Loss

Lowering blood loss and transfusions is another prime benefit of robotic surgeries. The National Library of Medicine conducted a study to determine the mortality rate due to massive perioperative blood loss (MBL). They stated that MBL after surgeries is both a psychological trauma and a physical ailment that often causes death.

Less Risk of Infection

Robotic surgeries minimize the risk of infection – as the procedure is minimally invasive.
